What grants does the SUDI Office manage?

The SUDI Office manages three grant contracts funded by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, as well as Determination of Needs Funds. Each contract is described below:

The City of Revere received the Massachusetts Opioid Abuse Prevention Collaborative (MOAPC) Grant in 2013, which consist of a regional framework involving the Cities of Revere and Chelsea and the Towns of Saugus and Winthrop. These four communities formalized the Winnisimmet Regional Opioid Collaborative (WROC) to prevent opioid misuse/abuse and reduce fatal and not-fatal overdoses.

The City of Revere is also a recipient of the Partnerships for Success (PFS) Grant. This is a primary prevention grant that focuses on preventing and reducing non-medical use of prescription drugs among high school-aged youth (14 to 18).

Both MOAPC and PFS utilize the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Strategic Prevention Framework, which requires grantees to follow a prescribed five-step process to address SUD.

In addition, the SUDI Office also oversees the First Responders Naloxone Grant, which funds the police and fire departments to carry and administer naloxone, and implement public safety initiatives to address opioid overdose.

Lastly, the City of Revere receives Determination of Need (DoN) Funds. These funds are made possible Massachusetts law M.G.L. c. 111, §§ 25C, which requires healthcare facilities to invest a percentage of capital expenditures back into the community. In Revere, the funds are received from Mass General Hospital.
