What is an Area of Environmental Concern (ACEC)?

An Area of Critical Environmental Concern(ACEC) is "a place in Massachusetts that receives special recognition because of the quality, uniqueness, and significance of its natural and cultural resources." In the City of Revere, Rumney Marsh and the salt marshes and nearby land are included in this designation. The Rumney Marsh ACEC provides a more stringent set of rules for activities in and nearby the salt marshes.
