What is the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)?

The Zoning Board of Appeals conducts public hearings regarding petitions to change the dimensional, parking and other such requirements of current zoning for a property as well as special permits requests for modifications to pre-existing nonconforming single-family and two-family dwellings. The ZBA is empowered to make decisions on whether to approve or deny any such petitions. The ZBA is appointed by the Mayor and consists of 5 members, who meet on the last Wednesday of each month in the City Council Chamber. Variance and special permit applications can be obtained from the City Clerk after the issuance of a denial letter by the Site Plan Review Committee.
