The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Transportation provides funds to local communities to undertake capital improvement projects for highway construction and preservation. Funding is determined by a legislature approved formula based on road miles, population and employment. These funds are used to reconstruct sidewalks and accepted roadways throughout the City in accordance with the City's Capital Improvement Plan.
