What must I do with my water/wastewater bill if I am closing or purchasing a new property?

Category: Water/Sewer Bill
Before closing on a property, the closing attorney usually requires a final water reading and a copy of the final Water/Sewer bill to be presented at the closing. This is the seller’s responsibility to request a final reading with the Water/Sewer Department. Although, in most cases the realtor will contact the department for the seller to make the request. Upon the request, the new owner information is required. Also, there is a $25.00 fee to process the final bill which can be paid when the taxpayer comes to pick up the bill. The bill should be paid in full by the responsible party.  After the new owner is settled, it is their responsibility to update any mailing information with the Water/Sewer Department.
